Relocate Air Traffic Control Receiver Site at Wheeler Army Airfield, Honolulu County, Hawaii

The Air Traffic Control (ATC) radio receivers at Wheeler Army Airfield support critical safety and flight communications. Our task was to relocate the existing radio facility from Building 1004 to a new equipment area in Building 1006 with minimal disruption to ongoing operations. Our project plan included engineering, procurement, installation, testing, and acceptance. The work required designing a new equipment room layout, signal and Radio Frequency (RF) infrastructure, new power infrastructure to include tieback to the existing backup power generator, trenching and underground installation to support the new and backup power, a 60-foot monopole tower site preparation, installation to support the RF and microwave antennas, cable bridge and building entrance panel for routing RF and microwave cable installation, and grounding and lightning protection system. Our team completed the installation with no disruption to mission-critical communications and in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines, and all state, Federal and local requirements.

We completed similar Air Traffic Control Communications projects for Yokota Air Base, Japan; Hood Army Airfield at Fort Hood, TX; Wright Army Airfield at Fort Stewart, GA; and Kahuku Point for Wheeler Army Airfield, Oahu, HI.
